As a class of small peptide that facilitates cellular entry through energy-, receptor-, and endocytosis-independent manner, protein transduction domains (PTDs) have emerged as promising tools for nanosystem-based delivery of therapeutic agents, including proteins and small molecules. However, one of major challenges in using PTDs as drug delivery system is their lack of cell specificity or tropism. In my upcoming hypothesis, I will propose a strategy to address this limitation using a domain of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-trans-activator of transcription (Tat) as a model. Stay tuned!
